PROJECT OVERVIEW
As a Senior Designer at Midtown Athletic Club, I was tasked with completing competitive research, developing a UX framework and leading a 3rd party app developer and design team (Arctouch) to build an app that would allow members to manage every aspect of their membership easily and quickly from the palm of their hands. This included functionality such as class and program bookings, space reservations and event registration.
Throughout the course of the project, I was promoted to Creative Director, where I led our Creative Team in producing pre-launch and launch campaigns, both Midtown and Arctouch project teams to test and launch the app, and traveled across our clubs to train our associates for go-live.
EMPATHIZE x RESEARCH
Competitive Market Analysis
Over the course of several weeks, I explored 7 different competitor apps within the fitness industry to understand different aspects of navigation, information hierarchy, visual design and iconography, types and number of features. I also interviewed creative directors and projects leads of these competitors to understand their process in designing their apps.
User Interviews
We set up interviews with current members and associates to hear their pain-points.
DESIGN
Considering member feedback like the ability to book courts, navigate the class schedule on the go, and browse program offerings, we balanced user needs, business goals, and representation of key brand pillars when making decisions related to information hierarchy.
LOW FIDELITY TO HIGH FIDELITY
We developed an architecture map, followed by low fidelity screen layouts, and built a UI library to reflect our visual brand identity.
Throughout the process it was important to us to maintain high accessibility standards and worked with experts to test this throughout the design process.
